If you're in the Hamptons this summer you know the mosquitos are vicious and the ticks are all over. It often bad, but this summer it seems especially bad - we even had the house professionally sprayed against both last month.
We've long been fans of Bug Bite Thing because like many kids, when mine get mosquito bites they swell up if we don't use the suction tool quickly (the suction extracts the insect saliva/venom from under the skin to reduce the body’s reaction, which is what causes the itching and swelling).
With that in mind I'm so excited to have them partaking in our upcoming mommy and me Goat Yoga class at Corwith's Farmstand in Southampton because as one might imagine there are lots of insects hanging around farms.
But beyond their signature mosquito and tick tools, the brand recently announced that they've launched tick testing kits.
The process is easy. When you receive the kit, you register it online, answer some brief questions, place the plastic baggie containing your tick in an envelope, and use the included prepaid shipping materials to send your tick to the lab. No extra postage is required. Results are delivered electronically via email within three business days.
The results provide a comprehensive analysis on the type of tick, the duration of its feeding and the exact germs the tick did or did not carry, including Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (can test ticks removed from both people and pets).
Here's to hoping none of us need this, but if we do it's good to have on hand. Plus to be familiar with tick removing protocol.
